Wild Woods Taxidermy is a family-owned business with a passion for the outdoors. We are licensed through the State of Iowa and permitted through the National Fish and Wildlife for migratory birds. We are also a proud member of the Iowa Taxidermy Association.
Hi, My name is Matt Sawvell and I grew up in Scott county in Eastern Iowa. As a young child, my passion was wildlife. I remember growing up, my father, grandfather, uncles, cousins, and I would head to the woods on weekends near the Wapsipinicon River. The memories we made hunting, fishing, and digging ginseng started my passion for the outdoors.
After high school, I obtained my commercial drivers licence. I wanted to see our beautiful country driving a 18 wheeler. I loved driving through our western states. During that time, I lived on Lake Odessa and started doing taxidermy as a hobby.
I got serious about taxidermy when I met Roger Hutton and attended Hutton Valley School of Taxidermy. I discovered my passion for taxidermy so I decided to follow my dreams of becoming a taxidermist and left the trucking industry. In 2022, I became a full-time taxidermist and started my business, Wild Woods Taxidermy.
My goal is to keep refining my skills as a wildlife artist and be the best that I can be for my family and customers. Thank you for visiting my website. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and create your custom wildlife art.
